After a ride to and from Atlanta in less than 24 hours, Jake & I digressed onto the subject of the 80’s. . . Sooooooo, remember when. . .
1) The hottest guys around (according to the Seventeen magazines brought to school by Victoria K.) were Patrick Swayze, Kirk Cameron, Johnny Depp, Michael J. Foxx, River Phoenix, Matthew Broderick, Jon Bon Jovi, Brad Pitt and (did I say?) Kirk Cameron?
2) Please like Duckie, Andie — he loves you. . .
3) Ahhh — boy bands.
5) Even more AHHHH — girlie songs. . . Eternal Flame, Lost in Your Eyes, Electric Youth . . .
6) Vests & Legwarmers. Knit Ties. Neon. (I had a pair of green socks — they matched my neon “Pop” shirt.)
7) BIG hair. (Lotsa perms. Lotsa hairspray.) Crimped hair.
Michael Jackson was still black.
9) Greg Louganis won diving at the Olympics. I thought he was the greatest. Hmmm.
10) Cabbage Patch Dolls.
11) Hammer Pants.
12) “Gag Me With A Spoon.” (Can we scream, “Judy King” right here?)
13) Jellies. (“Please, mom. Deborah has them.”)
14) Dirty Dancing. Footloose. Ferris Beuler’s Day Off. Manequin. Top Gun. Back to the Future.(HMMM. Who let my tender eyes see a TV?)
15) Our innocent minds, so polluted by Keith & Doreen and their music video collection.
16) Techno Music (Ava says, “I wike that!” while dancing.)
What would you add? Or were you even born then? FYI, for a fun trip down memory lane, visit you tube and type in something like “Whiteheart” or “Degarmo & Key” or “Crumbacher.” Fun.

Wow. . I’m glad your trip wasn’t any longer
. Gotta love the Stryper and Steve Taylor . . . where is some Wilson Phillips (or were they early 90’s)? I even had some pink sparkly peep toe jellies that I could wear with my styling culottes. The pink in the shoes matched the pink in my big plastic glasses
.
Me again. .. I had to give Brent a test and see if he could guess Stryper. . he said Petra until I told him to think “dressed up like a bumble bee in spandex” and then he got it right away
. Steve Taylor was a no brainer for him. FYI, since I looked at your blog Eternal Flame is floating around in my head. . thanks alot !!
I agree with Janice, you should be hurt for putting these songs in my head. Also, I’m sure I’m not the only one in your life to say “gag me with a spoon”. I think that’s a cool saying, maybe I should teach it to my kids.
How funny! I remember it all too well. I had a pair of black and yellow leg-warmers that I wore with my parachute pants and a black ripped shirt with my hair up on the side. I was cooool! But those were the good ol days and I wouldn’t change them! I do still like all the old movies (like sixteen candles) and the music (like Def Leppard). That was awesome! Gave me a good laugh today! Oh, by the way, I get made fun of for saying “stoked” alot!
Totally tubular! Like way cool! I could, like, way identify with your gnarly blog! But since I’m fast approaching my 40th b’day I think it would be best if I just didn’t comment further on my association with the 80’s. Besides, I’m like totally buggin out ’cause I’m Like so totally late for work and I still need to “peg-leg” my jeans, put on my boat shoes, turn up the collars on both of my polos and kiss my bodacious wife! …or should I do the Don Johnson look today?…
lynette,
thanks to you, i have had stryper songs going through my head all afternoon and i have to try and forget the images of robert sweet playing drums without a shirt. you should be punished severely. the pathetic thing is that after nearly twenty years i still remember specific guitar solos and drum rolls.
there is something disturbing about skinny white guys with hair the size of dallas wearing spandex pants and cowboy boots– i am sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. sort of like me creating my own acid-washed jeans with clorox and a squirt bottle. thank God no pictures exist.
if we make fun of our fashion sense from the 80s, i wonder what the guys from stryper feel like about now?
Remember the “Hammer” pants that Jason and Conrad got at the Bugle Boy Store? Man, I was so Jealous! Janice and I used to try to sneak into Jason and Conrad’s room and put on thier Hammer pants and dance around. We thought we were so totally cool!!!
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Boozing!!!!
