Hooray! My body knows exactly when it’s time to get sick! Imagine my joy when I came down with a sore throat last Thursday. Friday morning, after seeing a few puss pockets back there and fearing for the health of my 3-week-old baby, I cruised into the doctor’s office. Because I was not feeling too bad, I think the PA & I were both surprised with the positive strep result. SOOOO, off I go to fill a prescription of penicillin. By Saturday evening, I was feeling fine, and child still looked healthy. I did notice a nagging burning in my eyes, but figured I was just tired. Of course, good old PCN comes out in breastmilk apparently creating serious belly-ache in baby, so after a rather horriblenight on Saturday, I dragged myself to church. I mentioned to Jake two or three times that I was having trouble seeing with my right eye. When we got home from church, we ate quickly, and then all went to bed for a well-deserved nap. When I awoke, my eyes were burning and so light sensitive that I could hardly hold them open. To top it off, I had a snotty nose that was not previously there. (The snot, not the nose) After trying to enjoy an evening at mom & dad’s with my grandparents, we finally made it home. My eyes hurt so badly that I had to have the house virtually dark to even get ready for bed. Mom called the ER doctor for me to see if I might be having an allergic reaction to the medicine. They said I might want to hold off on it — oops I just took it. So, another call to my doctor’s office answering service at 10:30 p.m. to see if it was safe for me to take Benadryl. The verdict — SAFE — and maybe put some cold compresses on your eyes and definitely call back if you have trouble breathing. Yay.
Dr. Yoder’s again this morning — (can I just say that someone in my family has been there every week for at least a month and a half?) After searching for a foreign body or a scratch and deeming there to be no puss involved, it’s branded “Allergic Conjunctivitis.” But probably not to the medicine.
After more Benadryl and some allergy drops and some antibiotic drops, I had a good nap. Thank God for mom, who took Ava until nap time (who also had to take off of work to drive me to the doctor, since I could not open my eyes well enough to see to drive). Oddly enough, as soon as the Benadryl wore off, they flared up again. So, I guess little Luke is going to be getting a lot of productive, drug-induced sleep, since I’m miserable unless I take the stuff.
My sister-in-law is coming from Canada on Wednesday. Jake also has an appointment with the urologist on Wednesday, whereupon he will deliver his precious kidney stone and hear the verdict.
On the upside, I’ve met my deductible by having a baby. Jake is over half way to meet his. (Sad truth — kidney stone more expensive than baby.) So, bad timing or not, hopefully Jake manages to get any procedures scheduled during this calendar year.
Other than that, I’m feeling great. No pictures posted of said eyes — a) they would scare you; b) the flash would hurt too much.
That’s it for now — amazing that I can actually look at the computer this long. I just took the Benadryl . . .
wow. . . .quite the medical saga
. Hopefully you are approaching the last chapter!!
So sorry to hear that. You’ve had plenty of drama to last awhile around your house. Hope your feeling better soon.
