A few weeks ago, we saw our friends, Chad & Sarah, pushing around a neat stroller with their two kids in it — baby in front, toddler facing backwards on a bench. Hmmm. . . We need one like that. I checked at Babies R Us and they were $120ish. Then, I checked on Craig’s List, and found one for $70. Well, I didn’t get either for whatever reason.
Then, a week ago, I was yard-saleing on Saturday and called my mom to see if she wanted a tricycle for $5 to keep at her house. Ironically, she was also at a yard sale in Pensacola. “Yes,” she wanted the trike, and “Do you want a stroller for $5? It’s kind of a sit-stand thing and it holds two kids. It’s pretty beat up, but for $5 . . .” So we both paid and exchanged our goods later that evening.
The stroller was more faded than beat up. However, almost exactly like the one Chad & Sarah had. So, I brought it home, gutted it, washed it and began brain-storming. I remembered a piece of decorator fabric that I had purchased a couple of years ago from Sandy Classen’s yard sale as “huge table cloth — $1.00″ Sure enough, it matched, so away I went at ripping things apart. I was originally going to change everything, but after washing the cushion for Luke’s seat, I decided to keep the check material. The basket underneath was so torn up that I had to remake it — otherwise, I mostly just “spruced up”. We’ve gone on several walks with it now, and we’re all quite please with our $6 stroller. We’re quite confident no one out there has one quite like it.

We LOVE our stroller like this. We used it last summer in a bunch of airports and in CA on public transportation for 10 days (our boys were 4 months and 2 1/2 then) at the big Mennonite Convention. We continue to use it a lot. It makes me more confident in taking two kids out by myself. Very cute redo!
You are so crafty, Lynette! I can truly appreciate you efforts, since I saw the poor stroller before your skilled hands got a hold of it. There is not much better than a great deal–especially when you get to use your creative skill to make it an even greater deal!!!
Looks fabulous. . thats an awesome redo!!! Are there straps for the older child to hold them in . . . . I can just see Brian hopping off
.
Thanks, everyone.
Yes, Jan, there are straps, both to hold them in when they sit, and a set to lean back against if they’re standing. We’ve just been strapping Ava in around the waist, but you can actually strap between the legs, too.
